Going up to the Last Frontier means leaving many things behind. Friends, family, a home and studio space. Spending a summer in Alaska presents unending challenges, learning and adaptation. Diving into a new life forces a person to become more childlike. Forces, me in particular, to give up the fear of not knowing for the rewards of wonder and inspiration as vast as the landscapes in the far north.
Taking small pieces of earth’s basest material and protecting them, adorning them, making them precious and portable for the weary traveler to remember this place by. These hand-embroidered pieces are stretched over Kenai beach pebbles. They are the first in a series to be revealed as the summer progresses.
